Android / React App Development

as a student assistant at the LMU

In the PhoneStudy project, we address how mobile sensing technology can be used in psychological, sociological, and HCI research. Current work revolves around both connections between behavior, context, and personality , improving privacy and data protection, or deploying sophisticated machine learning models on mobile devices. The PhoneStudy Android app is the core of the project, and is kept up-to-date and state of the art by student assistants.

What would be your activity
As a fullstack developer, you would primarily work on our client-side study software, but also get an insight and smaller to-dos on the server side (more if you are interested). You will mainly take care that our app runs stable and secure on the latest Android versions, due to constant updates from Google there is always something to do. Besides Android, some components of the app are also implemented with ReactJS, if you are interested you could also set your focus here.
Die Arbeitszeit und -ort sind flexibel einteilbar, und somit mit Klausuren etc. gut vereinbar. Bei Interesse kann auch an wissenschaftlichen Publikationen mitgearbeitet werden.

Who we are looking for
• You have Android experience or alternatively very good Java knowledge
• You are interested in the interaction between app and backend, and for this you might already have
collected first experiences
• You want to get an insight into interdisciplinary research
• You enjoy working on collaborative projects in a small team where it is important
that everyone contributes with their ideas and experience
• You have time to contribute 10-15h/week to the project

If we have aroused your interest, we would be pleased to receive a message with a few brief details about your project-relevant previous knowledge / projects:

System Orchestration and Backend Developer

as a student assistant at the LMU

For the PhoneStudy research project we are looking for student assistants (Hiwi) for 10-15h per week. In the project we deal with correlations between smartphone usage behavior and psychological theories, such as personality. For this purpose, we are developing a mobile sensing Android app that efficiently and securely collects user data for scientific studies.

What would be your activity
You would further develop our automated provisioning and deployment system through which servers are managed. We use Ansible playbooks to set up and configure the required software. We would also like to continuously develop our NodeJS backend application to enable data logging to answer new research questions. Your first tasks could be, for example, configuring monitoring of our live system using Kibana, extending the NodeJS backend to support multiple studies, or user and role management of the backend via Anisble.
The working hours and location can be flexibly arranged, and are therefore well compatible with exams etc.
If you are interested, you can also work on scientific publications.

Who we are looking for
• You have first experiences in dealing with Linux systems
• You want to get involved in interdisciplinary research and actively contribute to the development of new ideas
• You work on problems independently and with commitment
• You have time to contribute 10-15h/week to the project

If we have aroused your interest, we would be pleased to receive a message with a few brief details about your project-relevant previous knowledge / projects:
